This is the front of the cottage as it looks now, August 26, 2009. As you can see it is quite plain compared to other "Gingerbreads" in the campground.
We plan to make a number of changes.
1. Color- We feel the blue is too dark.
Do you have a color scheme in mind? Please share your ideas.
2. Corbels- Corbels are the scroll style brackets that go at the top of the porch balustrades.
Have you seen some you like? Let us know.
3. Vergeboard Trim- This is the gingerbread trim along the roof line to the peak.
Do you have a design?
4. Name- The current name is "Chuck" full o' nuts. Cute, but we'd like to change it.
What name would fit? "Money Pit" might be appropriate.
We need your help!
Your ideas will help us restore this cottage to its former grandeur, if it ever had any. We feel this property has the potential of being an attraction for the throngs of tourists that visit the campground each summer.
The location on the Tabernacle circle makes it a high traffic cottage. Few people stop to take pictures of the plain little cottage. We think that it can be one of the featured cottages on the circle. Share your thoughts and ideas. We are even happy to have your help. We have plenty of brooms and paint brushes.
Please contact us.
Dad your negativity is seeping into your post. We will fix it up...this is a competition isn't it...everything is a competition even if the other people don't know we are competing. We will get in the dang calendar yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful little cottage with so much potential. Sounds like you have a vision for what it could be. Wish I were closer to help out!
ReplyDeleteWendy and Barry,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Thanx for including your friends in the process of nursing this adorable property back to its prime. First things first! To name the cottage. We named our family's cottage, Roman Holiday; fitting for our family name- Roman. I don't have any specific ideas yet for yours, but will start thinking. Enjoy! M Clarke

ReplyDeleteHi Wendy and Barry,
Nice enjoyable blog so far you've got going.
Congratulations on your new home-away-from-home! We kept watching for it every night on the evening news leading up to the President's vacation visit there. We saw some of your new neighbors' houses for sure but they showed them too fast for us to pick out your house!
Anyway, I have a name that may be appropriate... I hope. With a little play on words but full of meaning...
"Sea-Sun'd Oak" or "Sea-sunned Oak"
Given the acorn trim, the oaks around the Tabernacle, the whole Oak Bluffs theme plus the fact that the house is old, you're surrounded by the sea and there's plenty of sunshine to enjoy (aside from your interview day).
Good luck with the closing.
Len
Congratulations you two!
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming cottage. Surely does not resemble a shack! We're looking forward to seeing it this summer.
Best,
Sebastiana and Doug
